Figures of graffiti artists - Audrey Derquenne and Élise Clerc
Figures de graffeuses celebrates fifty women who have chosen to dedicate part of their life to painting and more particularly to characters, these often forgotten figures of graffiti. More easily recognizable and accessible to the public, "the characters" are nevertheless a discipline in its own right of this movement. Whether alone or accompanied by letters, their visual immediacy, with a brute force, challenges the eye through compositions of colors and expressions. These characters - human or animal figures - can have an identity, cultural or community impact. Each work carries within it a meaning of its own - symbolic, protest or simply aesthetic - and is part of a very particular universe of creation. Figures de graffeuses follows on from the first book Graffeuses: it completes and closes this presentation of the female movement in graffiti in France. Through the reflections of three decades of activists and several hundred photographs, it reveals the vision of these women on their practice, their sources of inspiration, the links they maintain with this milieu and the place occupied by this discipline. in their life.
