Jerome Pierrat tattoos

An ancestral and universal tradition, the tattoo fascinates by the variety of its practices and its polysemy: vector of social prestige and identity, among the Maoris, symbol of tribal or magical conceptions in Southeast Asia and Oceania, sign of contestation of the " little people" in 17th century Japan... Later in the West, sailors, convicts and then urban tribes adopted tattoos to show their belonging to a group or their marginality. Today, it has largely lost its sulphurous reputation and, through renewed aesthetic codes, asserts itself as a planetary phenomenon.
