Graffiti writing was born in the streets of Philadelphia at the end of the 1960s. But it was in New York in the early 1970s that it became an urban art in its own right, gradually taking possession of the landscape of the city, from the walls to the metro cars. From these years of emergence, the pioneers of graffiti laid the foundations: a perpetual game with the 26 letters of the alphabet, abused, stretched and highlighted in the nicknames painted on the walls.
