Woshe│ALPHABEATZ. Graffiti in full
Graffiti writing was born in the streets of Philadelphia at the end of the 1960s. But it was in New York in the early 1970s that it became an urban art in its own right, gradually taking possession of the landscape of the city, from the walls to the metro cars. From these years of emergence, the pioneers of graffiti laid the foundations: a perpetual game with the 26 letters of the alphabet, abused, stretched and highlighted in the nicknames painted on the walls.
Passionate about graffiti for 25 years, Woshe tells us the incredible story of the birth of this culture. He then invites us to a detailed examination of the 26 letters of the alphabet, their structure and the evolutions that writers can bring to them. Multiple examples illustrate this study, supplemented by that of the enrichments that it is possible to add to the letters themselves. Finally, 10 of the most talented creators on the international scene respond with sincerity and commitment to Woshe's questions about their practice, their relationship with letters, their cultural references, etc.
Alphabeatz is both a writing manual, an inspiring idea box, a beautiful book on the world of graffiti, but above all a declaration of love for this culture that combines urban performance and mastery of the letter.
